An introduction to supporting children with Sensory Processing Difficulties
Monday, 6th June 2016 9.30am-3pm
Cost: £100 (including lunch, refreshments, handouts and certificate).
Some children have difficulty “behaving appropriately” as their brain does not send their senses the correct messages. These children may have Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD or other learning difficulties. By attending this training event, you will gain a better understanding of sensory processing, how to recognise children with sensory processing difficulties and how to support them in the classroom and at home.
The aim of the day is to:
- Understand the term ‘sensory processing disorder’ and ‘sensory integration’
- Understand the functions of the main sensory systems and recognise indicators of sensory processing difficulties in children
- Understand how sensory processing disorders impact on the child’s daily functioning
- Learn strategies to support the child in school and at home
This information and training session is for parents, SENCo’s, teachers, TA’s, INA’s, health care professionals and carers working with children and young people. Delivered by Jigsaw’s paediatric Occupational Therapists, who have post-graduate training in sensory integration and have extensive experience working with children and young people who a range of difficulties in a variety of settings.
